Street art clashed with the authorities back in '04--Roadsworth, a then anonymous graffiti artist painted the town at night, using the streets, literally the streets of Montreal, as his canvas. His art sparked controversy as officials and the public engaged in a debate over whether or not his artistic gestures could excuse him from the law. Roadsworth faced 54 counts of mischief and almost $100,000 in fines including possible jail time, but was given a more casual sentence and eventually a commission to display his art legally, due in large part to the generous cry of support felt from the communities art enthusiasts. Check out the trailer for his new documentary film below, and see more of his work at the official Roadsworth website. His stuff is really intriguing--it's beautiful to see how he uses the actual infrastructure of the city--crosswalks, parking lots, even calculating where shadows will fall, all things unassociated with art--to create these gorgeous works of art, unusual and strangely in place, rather than out of. Roadsworth is a great addition to Montreal--this type of art has the potential to draw tons of tourists to town to see the work in person. I'd love to see this type of work here in New York.

this guy is amazing.. his innocent intension's make his art work worth so much more, and i respect that he really thought it out rather than throw up anything anywhere... but NY has a great variety of art... another added wouldn't be an upset :)
